There the different kinds of coffee-makers, with each, using a variety of brewing principles. However, the coffee maker was invented by Melitta Bentz (1873).

History Of Coffee Machines

For a long period of time, preparing a coffee drink was an easy procedure that involved grounding roasted coffee beans as well as putting them in a pot of hot water to allow for the infusion process.

The pots were, particularly, formed in such a technique that they could trap the ground coffee beans prior to the coffee being poured.

In France, the infusion process became more popular. The drip brewing process of making coffee by filters also became popular. Some methods were used to prepare coffee filters including the use of cloth socks.

How Melitta Bentz Invented The Coffee Machine

Amalia Melitta Bentz (German entrepreneur) was born in 1873. When she used percolators, frustrated by the over-brewing of coffee, she tried different ways of making coffee but each of the items used failed. Then she decided to use a blotting paper from her son’s notebook, the paper was simpler to use as well as produce a clean coffee.

Rapidly Bentz started her coffee company along with becoming the first person to make a coffee filter. She was also granted a patent by the Kaiserliche Patentamt on June 20, 1908, together the company was registered in December.

The company attempted to sell 1200 coffee filters in time for the Leipzig fair (1909). The demand for the coffee filter was so high by the period of 1928, and the employees had to work in dual sift.

During Bentz’s death in 1950, the company was valued at DM 4.7 million. In 2018 that company had also made 1.5 billion in sales as well as had over 4500 employees worldwide. Now, the Melitta Group has massive products and brands, and worldwide operations too.

The Automatic Drip Coffee Machine

The automatic drip coffee machine was famous and invented by Mr. Coffee (1970). This coffee maker works in a similar way to Bentz’s coffee filter by dripping hot water through a perfectly grounded filter paper.

The reservoir is first filled with cold water, in an automatic drip espresso machine, followed by heat from a heating element. Moreover, boiling creates the steam to rise into a tube along with condensing. And the condensed water infuses with coffee and at the same time filtered into a carafe which is placed on a hot metal plate to maintain the coffee warm.

To summarize, the coffee maker offers you great convenience and a delicious cup of coffee for you. But, most people don’t know about the history of the coffee machine. However, by reading the above article you can know the total history of your favourite coffee maker.
